Regarding The Name Change.
Let me be the first to say that, some of the greatest bands ever have had some of the most bizarre names and we’ve not even taken the time to recognize those bands have funky names. Some good examples would be: Thrice, Jimmy Eat World, Foo Fighters, etc. So, what’s in a name? A part of me felt the need to defend the name change, and then I soon realized there is no need because after all - it’s just a name. Something else to consider is this, while we love our fans and listen to them and appreciate their input this is still ultimately our decision. I know most of you have an opinion of the name whether you love it or you hate it, but we are still the same people with the same heart; that hasn’t changed at all.
Though we’ve experienced a bit of a renaissance with members departing and new members arriving, we put a great deal of time, effort and patience into deciding who would continue this journey with us. Because of this reason we’ve obviously not been as public as you’re used to and for that all we can say is, we promise you things are progressing again and we are excited.
To be totally clear about the Kickstarter, we don’t want to be perceived as needing sympathy which is why we haven’t shared much info about the financial aspect, but a lot less came in than what you all saw was given. After our 5% pay out to Kickstarter and a handful of pledges declining to participate it was considerably less. This DOES NOT mean we are not getting you all incentives, it means what you’re expecting to hear, it’s taken longer to get everything together.
We didn’t want to offer any less than what we believe you deserve for selflessly giving toward the record, so we are working on it; promise. As for the record coming out later this year, I actually never said the record would be coming out later this year, I said there will be new music coming later this year. Now, this does not necessarily mean the record won’t come out, we are thinking through the best possible ways because as I mentioned before, many many things have changed since we previously offered a large update.
We can’t forget you’re in this with us, and forgive us if it has seemed that way. We put a great deal of effort and time into thinking about what’s not only best for us but you all as well, and we are so appreciative of your support and patience with us. I’ll say it again, there WILL be new music coming this year; how and when we are still unsure but we definitely are making that happen. We will have an update soon regarding yet another addition to the band and we are thrilled about it, so stay tuned to the SONS networks and we’ll get you all some news ASAP.
